Hi, I’m William — the person behind Modern Nest Life.
This site started in late 2025, and honestly, it started because of my friends. For years, whenever someone I knew bought a new couch, moved into a new apartment, or just felt stuck staring at a blank wall, I’d get the same message: “Can you come look at my place? I don’t know what to do with it.”
I’d show up with a tape measure and an opinion, and we’d figure it out together. Rearrange the furniture. Hang the curtains higher. Swap out the one light fixture that was making everything look yellow and tired. Small changes, most of the time — the kind of stuff that takes an afternoon and somehow makes a whole room feel different.
After the fifth or sixth friend asked me why I didn’t just write all this down somewhere, I finally did. That’s how Modern Nest Life was born.

Others are deep dives on a single topic, like which flooring actually holds up in a busy hallway or how to tell modern design apart from contemporary (yes, they’re different, and no, I’m not just being picky — it matters when you’re shopping).
How Every Article Is Put Together
I want to be straight with you about how these posts get made, because there’s a lot of fluff on the internet and I’d rather you know what you’re getting.
Every article starts with research — what designers are actually recommending right now, what readers are asking about, and what products and materials are genuinely worth your money versus just marketed well. I pay attention to the details that matter in a real home: how a fabric holds up to a dog, whether a “budget” light fixture looks cheap once it’s installed, which colors photograph beautifully online but feel wrong in a north-facing room.
I don’t write about things I wouldn’t suggest to a friend in my living room. If a trend is overhyped, I’ll say so. If something works but takes effort, I’ll tell you that too. I’d rather give you ten solid ideas than thirty filler ones.
My Mission (The Honest Version)
Decorating advice has a reputation problem. Either it’s a magazine spread of a house that costs more than your car, or it’s a listicle of “ideas” that aren’t really ideas at all. I wanted a middle ground: practical, specific, warm advice from someone who genuinely likes this stuff and wants your home to feel good.
That’s the whole mission. Help you make your home feel like yours — not a showroom, not a Pinterest board someone else made, just a place you’re happy to come back to.
